Most people don't fully comprehend the financial distress that a Cancer diagnosis has on patients. Most don't think about cancer unless it happens to them or someone they love. Missing work to go to your chemo appointments. I was let go because I had cancer and was missing days. I can’t prove it, but after 9 years of loyal service to the company, I was “laid off”. Chemo infusions can be hours and hours long. And if you're too sick to drive yourself? My husband would have to miss work and take me. Some treatments make you immunocompromised so you can't take public transit. Parking and gas, right there. Multiple times a month. If one of you misses too many work days, you could lose your job, your insurance, or both. And if you are being treated with a newer chemo that doesn't have a generic version you are paying more out of pocket for your treatments. And that's not considering MD copays, labs, scans, biopsies, and outpatient medications including all the OTHER medications cancer patients take like anti-anxiety, antimicrobials, etc., all of which are often billed incorrectly which means the patient spends more time on the phone with their insurance companies working out the billing... It is beyond stressful.
There's something incredibly morally wrong with a country that allows people to go bankrupt if they draw a winner in the sick lottery.
I set up this fund to help with cancer costs, as well as rent and food.
I have been fighting Breast Cancer since 2010, and Stage IV since 2016. I will not improve, this is terminal. I have always been self-sufficient, but cancer and its ripple effect have practically bankrupted us. Thus the reason I am reaching out to the Universe/Social Media for help. I was forced to quit my job due to side effects. My husband has been my sole caregiver, trying to carry us and cancer-related expenses on his income.
