When we hear the word "accessibility", it is easy to think of ramps, braille and closed captioning. But what about digital accessibility?
Touchscreen-based devices rule the tech world. But how is someone who has limited or no upper-body mobility supposed to participate in the action? Before Tecla, they simply couldn't because they were not designed with everyone in mind.
This holiday season, we invite you to join Tecla and Ontario March of Dimes in sharing the gift of accessibility. For every $175 USD we raise, we will match you, dollar for dollar, and donate a Tecla to someone who hasn't yet benefitted from accessing mobile technology.
Tecla is for anyone who can’t easily use a smartphone, tablet or computer. This includes those with limited upper-body mobility resulting from spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, ALS, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, brain injuries, or stroke.
Tecla allows an individual to interact with their iOS, Android devices or computers, hands-free. This includes the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android smartphones and tablets. It works with a variety of assistive switches on the market including light-touch buttons, sip-and-puff or proximity sensors, joysticks and the driving controls of a wheelchair.
With Tecla, you can send and receive emails and text messages, browse the web, watch videos, launch and use apps, read books, change the TV channel or turn the heat up, make (or hang up) phone calls at any time, and enter commands using Siri. Basically, you can use your smart device to its fullest!
