Dare to Rise Above, Dare to Make a Difference

Hello, I am John McCrary, the Director for Seraphim International.  We are a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in rural coastal communities. Our goal is not to "save" these communities, but instead to provided them with the training and assistance to address their own issues.  It is the "teaching a person to fish versus giving them a fish" concept on a larger scale.  We achieve this by providing "train the trainer"  programs in the fields of community medicine, sanitation, health education, and disaster preparation and mitigation.

Combined, we have decades of experience in living and working in isolated rural communities under austere conditions.  That experience has taught us that many communities lack the resources to host a training team without putting undue stress on the community.  We aim to address this by fielding a small flotilla of purpose-built humanitarian aid ships that can serve as self-sufficient, ecological-friendly floating classrooms and dormitories with enough cargo space to provide for the entire crew for an extended duration while also carrying sufficient materials to accomplish the mission.

The Motor Sailing Vessel Seraphim was designed from the keel up to be a purpose-built humanitarian aid vessel.  Construction began under another non-profit, but circumstances prevented them from completing the vessel.  This affords us a unique opportunity in that Seraphim was designed to meet our basic needs, but is at a stage of completion where we can easily modify her to reduce both operating costs and her ecological footprint while also updating her equipment to modern standards.  These upgrades will include a hybrid electric drive system that takes advantage of both solar generation and prop regeneration to minimize the amount of time the diesel engines are operational which will greatly reduce emissions..

At least 95% of your donation will go towards the purchase and completion of Seraphim with less than five percent of your donation split between payment processor fees  and assorted overhead expenses.  In particular, none of your donation will go to compensation of any of our regular staff.  Seraphim international is a labor of service-oriented love towards our fellow humans, and we believe that we lead by example.  So, all of our leadership and operations team members are unpaid volunteers who have donated both their time and money towards realizing the vision of Seraphim International.
