Update #1

Thank you everyone for all of the donations to the Serrie childcare fund. Karen and Keir's parents seem to have found the most solid, caring and wonderful helper in Atlanta. Her name is Cookie and they rave about her being the right person at the right time. She has helped other families dealing with the same issues and is invaluable to them. They couldn't have gotten here without all of your amazing help on this and on all of the other fronts as well.

I know that many of you have pledged a monthly amount that is still being sent. I have spoken with Karen and she feels in control of the finances and is starting to come out of the fog that Keirs death left her in. She feels ready and able to take on the payments herself and that you can stop the recurring payments on her behalf.

If anyone needs help doing so, please let me know and I'll figure it out for all of us. Thank you all again for helping, Keirs friends and family are amazing.

More Info

Hello Friends and Family of the Serries,

As most of you know, Keir passed away right before Christmas. The family is holding up as well as can be expected but everyone is obviously devastated and in shock that this could happen to such an amazing person.

I know many of you have contributed to helping with meals and cleaning and groceries but now that things have to go back to (the new) normal, we have another ask. And it's a big one. A couple of friends, with the blessing of Karen and Karim, are attempting to organize child care. Although Keir's parents are an unbelievable help, the responsibility of three small children is a lot. Grandparents should get the fun part of the duty to spoil them vs. the daily grind that they're in currently. Since Karen is involved in the difficult time of picking up the pieces and going back to work, they all need a break and one or two reliable people who can spend the night if need be, help with homework, make lunches, pick up from practices etc.

We've put together a special funding site because we're asking for a monthly recurring donation from those who can do that. That way we can count on a certain amount and pay the bill directly from the account to the nanny service. Our goal is $2500 a month to pay for 5 hours a day of someone's time. It might be split into weekends or be more one month than the next but this gives them flexibility to let Hal and Gretchen leave town for a bit if they need to, allows for weekend hours or extra stay overs etc.

The two of us (longtime friends of Karen and Keir) are committing to $100. a month. Don't feel that you have to give that much, whatever you can afford is great. Just be sure to click the recurring donation option below the amount.

We are interviewing nannies right now and hope to have someone hired asap.

Thank you for your generosity on behalf of The Serries. We know Keir would want his children to continue on and be their joyous selves and getting back to their routine is a big part of it.

If you have any questions, you can contact us through the site or at [email protected] or [email protected]

Thanks again,

Nanda and Pam
