More Info

Yesterday Mike Ferritto swam across Lake Erie from Long Point, Canada to Freeport Beach, North East.  He is trying to raise money on the Lower East Side Gym, a non-profit after school organization supporting Erie youth by mentoring and coaching young boxers.  Mike does hope, however, that his hard work will inspire these Erie teens. After months of supporting Mike’s intense training and discipline, The Lake Erie Swim Committee is now respectfully asking your support of the gym and its long tradition of helping teach discipline and respect to inner-city youth.

The Lower Eastside Sports Center, Inc., Lower Eastside Gym’s boxers rely on the generous support of corporate citizens, private donors and charitable organizations to continue providing equipment, access to travel opportunities, and gym maintenance.

Over the past 31 years the gym has helped at least 2,500 Erie teens develop their interpersonal skills, competitive spirits, and dedication to fitness for life at the Lower East Side Gym.   They work to train boxers to win in the ring and in life encouraging kids to attend college and stay off of drugs.   The Lower East Side Gym has turned out dozens of Local, District and State champions and proudly boasts two female National Champions!

With the trend away from government funded after school programs, now more than ever our community needs your help.

Please consider a contribution, for these integral reasons:

  • Your gift to the non-profit Lower East Side Gym is tax deductible.
  • You are making an investment in the economic vitality of our community.
  • Your gift allows free access to after school program that helps develop character.

Programs like at The Lower East Side Gym give kids hope.  They train our young men and women to work hard, fight fair, and make good choices.  The Lake Erie Swim Committee’s goal is to raise $20,000 in support of the Gym, and any gift you can give will help.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
