Alan Blackman's Rent Fund

Alan Blackman's Rent Fund

From Elizabeth A Spitz

Our beloved uncle Alan turned 95 in May 2023, and has hit hard times financially. We (his family) are helping as much as possible, and also requesting recurring contributions to cover his rent, $1,100 per month.

Update #4

Hi friends of Alan, wanted to let you know what's been going on. Two things: first, Alan was in the hospital for a while, not severely ill but they kept him longer while they worked to arrange in-home services, and for physical therapy. Happily he's back home and doing well. Second, there was a glitch between Fundly and the payment processing site, Stripe. After a lot of wrangling we finally got it sorted out. Unfortunately, the recurring donations feature was disabled and they are not able to get it going again. I'm sorry to say, if you were one of the benevolent angels who had recurring donations set up, you will need to set it up again if you want it to start back up. I'm very sorry it's not more convenient, but it's the best we can do. If you are willing to set up a recurring donation (again or starting new) we will be so grateful. We continue to be amazed and beyond thankful for Alan's amazing supporters. If not for you, he would not still be in his beloved apartment. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions. Thank you more than I can say! All the best, Lissa

More Info

We are incredibly grateful for every single donation, no matter the size. We are also hoping to focus on recurring donations, so that we can plan ahead and know that no single donation needs to be too much. For instance, 48 people at $25/mo covers his rent. You can choose the recurring option after you click "donate now".

Thank you so much!!

Update #3

Hello friends of Alan! Wanted to let you know that as of July Alan is still going strong, maintaining his independence with the amazing support of all those lovely people who have signed up through this page, or donated directly in some cases. Thanks to your support, we have been able to pay his rent direct to the landlord, every month so far this year starting in February. We are beyond grateful for each and every donation! Thank you more than I can say.

Update #2

Hello friends of Alan! Once again, we are awed by your generosity. As of February 11, we have committments for recurring donations totalling $905.00 per month, as well as one-time donations which come to an additional $954.00. You all are absolutely amazing!
I also want to apologize for an error in earlier posts, I was originally told that the rent was $1,200 per month, and have since learned from the landlord that it's $1,100 (so good news, actually). We paid the February rent on time, direct to the landlord, so thank you again! And finally, because there's not an option to show a recurring monthly fundraising goal, we changed it to $13,200 to cover rent for one year.
Please feel free to contact me any time if you have quesitons. We (the family) are all more grateful than we can ever express for all your help. Such wonderful people out there! All the best, Alan's niece Lissa (Elizabeth)

Update #1

Hello friends of Alan! We're thrilled to meet this stage of our fundraising goal. To help clarify, our real goal is a recurring $1,200 per month (his rent). But we can't post a recurring goal. As of now, we have recurring committments totalling $563 per month, which is fantastic! The rest is made up of one time contributions. We are incredibly grateful for every single dollar raised, thank you more than we can say!
