More Info

Gambling in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is strictly regulated and prohibited. In fact, it is illegal to gamble or participate in any form of gambling activity within the country’s borders.

Some exceptions to this rule are horse and camel racing - which the government has legalized as a way to generate revenue for charity organizations. Additionally, some forms of gaming activities are allowed, such as bingo and raffles, where participants pay an entry fee but do not receive money back if they win.

The Law and Regulations Around Gambling in the UAE

The UAE Penal Code prohibits most forms of gambling, and any person engaging in such activities can face severe penalties. In addition, the UAE Central Bank has issued a directive prohibiting banks from processing payments related to online gambling activities. This includes online betting in UAE, sports betting sites, and lottery games.

Legal Gambling Activities in the UAE

Though betting and online gambling is illegal in the United Arab Emirates, there are still plenty of popular activities that people can enjoy. Horse racing is one of the most popular gambling activities in the UAE, with many race tracks located throughout the country. Camel racing is also a popular betting pastime, which is usually held at festivals or special events. It has been a part of the country’s culture for centuries and is still enjoyed by many today, with races usually held on weekends in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi and Al Marmoum, Dubai.

From the Dubai World Cup to the Al Maktoum Challenge, there are plenty of exciting events for horse racing fans to bet on. The Dubai World Cup is one of the most popular horse races in the UAE, with a prize of $12 million. It takes place at Meydan Racecourse in March each year and attracts some of the best horses from around the world.

The Al Maktoum Challenge is another famous race at Meydan Racecourse in January each year. This race has a $5 million prize and features some of the best horses from across Europe, Asia, and North America.
