Apple's new iPhone12 leather case has been updated. MagSafe is the major addition, but it also includes a few changes over its predecessors. Here's everything you need to know.

Apple's clear and silicone cases were delayed, so the leather case didn't become available until the iPhone 12 mini was available for preorder. There are sizes available for every Apple iPhone 12 model, including the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The case is the same size for the iPhone 12 Pro as the iPhone 12 Pro.

Apple also released its leather case and leather sleeves for its new phones at the same time. We have all of them, except for the leather sleeve not yet available for order at the time of review.

One minor point: the boxes that come with the Apple silicone cases are different. Apple has made the packaging a little more expensive iPhone 12 wallet case to match the premium cases. The packaging is not sealed with a sticker but has an elegant locking mechanism that opens when you pull the top.

New colors

Apple is using existing leather accessories to create these colors, so if any of them sound familiar it's because they are pulling from their color wheel. For example, the new Leather Link is available in Baltic Blue and Californian Poppy as well as Saddle Brown and black.

While black and brown will continue to be popular colors, we prefer the Baltic Blue and the California Poppy. The California Poppy is a kind of light caramel brown, which is unique but not too wild. For a complete look, it matches the Poppy Leather Link Apple Watchband.

An iterative design

Apple's leather cases are slightly different from the previous versions. Apple has added MagSafe to its product line.

Instead of covering just the edges of the lower half, the case covers the entire bottom of your phone. Although we preferred the original design, it is difficult to argue that the new cases offer more protection.

New changes are also visible around the camera bump. The entire camera module now has a raised plastic lip. This should protect the lenses from being scratched if they are placed on rough surfaces.

The signature details such as the Apple logo on the back and the soft leather are still there. These are the details that make Apple's stand out from other cheaper options.

The leather wraps around the edges and then folds to the inside. This gives you leather both on the exterior and interior edges. To denote the MagSafe magnetic ring, the back panel is covered in microfiber lining with a plastic ring at its center. Those are the things I was referring to.
