Asia's Amputation

We have had Asia since she was a kitten. A friend asked us to watch her while she was moving out of state and said she will be back for her. Needless to say, she never came back.  Asia is now 9 and is a giant ball of soft fluffy fur.

On June 16 2013, I woke up and found Asia laying in the bathroom. She started to get up and move, and I noticed that her leg was twisted at a weird angle. I felt her foot and it was cold, meaning she may not have circulation in that foot. I woke my husband up and told him we need to get her to the vet right away.

We arrived at Alameda East and they proceeded to take x-rays and also found some superficial wounds to her leg. She has a broken fibia, rotated kneecap and a luxcated tibia. They advised us of our options which were a splinting of the leg with low chances to heal properly; fusing of the joints with medium chances of healing and a $4000 cost, or amputation. We decided on splinting for now, hoping that the scar tissue will help her leg.

Thursday the 20th, we came back to change her bandages and the vet examined her and said her leg is not healing properly and the bones are still popping out of place. We made the final decision to amputate her leg and the vet said that cats are very adaptable to having a limb removed.

So in turn, we are trying to raise some money to help Asia get her leg amputated.  We are not the type of people that like to ask for money or help. We are making flower boxes and selling them for $40 as we want to work and earn this money for her. Understandably, people may not want a box or have enough money for one.
