The Story and Project:

This exhibition is inspired by experiences during a night walk in Point Reyes National Seashore in California on January 4th, 2023, which was engrossed by an ‘atmospheric river’ spurred by a ‘bomb cyclone’ in the Pacific.  I was struck by the sublime power of the storm, and how the forest both resisted and accepted the wind and deluge. In the near dark conditions, there was a sense that everything was simultaneously dissolving and congealing - form and formlessness everywhere - the trees, the sky, the rocks, the rivers, the animals, and myself.

Over a year and a half ago I was asked if I would be interested in exhibiting sculptures in the ‘Sala delle Grasce’, a stone room below the cloister of the main church, Sant’Agostino, in the town of Pietrasanta (where I now live for much of the year).  Somehow, this stone walled medieval space brought forth a strange connection to those experiences in the forest of Pt. Reyes.  In what seems to be an increasingly fractured world, this project attempts to evoke a sensation of the ‘oneness’ of all things and environments which hold both dramatic power and calm spaciousness.

The works for this exhibition will consist of sculptures, mixed-media assemblage panels, and a multimedia installation in the main room, with another installation, in the ‘room of the disappearing stairs’ behind the central space.

The project is well underway, however, with a little more than a month before the inauguration, there is a large amount of production to be completed. Your contribution will make it possible to obtain materials and assistance to complete the works, prepare for the exhibition, and for the installation in the space.

All contributions of $50 or more will be rewarded with an original work of art made in preparation for the exhibition and/or independently (in addition to an exhibition catalogue).  Currently, there are also limited bronze sculptures available for purchase at a discounted price in order to fund this project (see images below - please inquire via email if interested).

Thank you for your kind attention and for any contribution you are able to make.
