Dear Friends and Family,

Our church has been partnering with an incredible organization called Compassion International for more than a decade. They provide food, family support and education to children through sponsorship programs and last year we met our three Ugandan children: Simon, Mathias and Eva (pictured below). It was a surreal experience that covered the spectrum of emotions usually all at the same time. The best way to describe it would be a permanent smile then a quick shiver of anxiety leading into a burst of exuberance, ending with a melting heart and a sense of injustice. So, we decided to sponsor an additional child and help lead the next team of ten people this coming February 5-15th, 2014.

This past trip, we spent most of our time visiting with our partner church, St. Luke’s, and the Compassion project on site. Over 350 children are sponsored in this project alone, but the number of siblings not enrolled is in the thousands. The poverty is so great that only one child per family is able to receive sponsorship. This places a lot of responsibilities on the child to learn as much as possible to improve the conditions for his or her family, teaching the other siblings what they have learned. However, we were struck by the lack of educational resources. There was only one book for a classroom with over 50 students and only the teacher was allowed to hold it. The few times we were asked for money by the children it was always to buy books. This seemed like a suitable area to focus on.

The Homeless Homies Foundation has raised enough funds to set up 10 laptops pre-installed with thousands of educational videos covering STEM subjects for K-12, Wikipedia, biblical resources, lessons on healthy living, agriculture and anything else that our friends (including you) pass along to us that would be of value to the children and community. The laptops and information will be refreshed with each annual trip and hopefully serve as a pilot for expanding the computer lab concept across other Compassion projects throughout Uganda.

We ask for your prayers as we prepare for the trip and while we are there. Also, prayerfully consider donating towards the trip which is $2,800/person (all donations are tax deductible). We understand that times are tough and finances are tight, not to mention that Christmas is right around the corner. If you are able to contribute, you can donate here by clicking "Make a Donation" or by sending a check made out to WaterStone Community Church with Uganda 2014 on the memo line (do not write our name). Please mail it to Waterstone Community Church 5890 S. Alkire St. Littleton, CO 80127.

Whether you are in a position to contribute or not, please pray for the safety of the team and for blessings on the people of Uganda. We want to serve and show God’s love in real and tangible ways. And as if returning to Uganda weren’t exciting enough, Enza and I leading the trip together is already proving to be a great opportunity for us to work together and grow in appreciation for each other’s strengths.

Thank you for all your love and support. We are blessed to have you in our lives.
