Dianne Wilkinson and Rebecca J. Peck win Gospel Music Award
The Absolutely Gospel Music Awards have just announced their recipients for the 2017 season. In addition to Wilkinson and Peck, Daywind Music Group has been nominated for two songwriting awards, one each for professional songwriter and best album. The group's "First Church of Mercy" has garnered more than 10 million views on YouTube, making it one of the most popular gospel albums ever.
In their winning performance, "Christ is Still the King" has a strong spiritual message. Dianne Wilkinson has been interviewed on SGY. The song's lyrics are affecting and profound. Dianne and Rebecca J. Peck have also been honored with several other awards for their work. This is their first Grammy win! The song is a rousing favorite among many worshippers.
Jason Clayborn nominated for eight Stellar Awards
The announcement that acclaimed singer-songwriter and Grammy(r) nominee Jason Clayborn has been nominated for eight Stellar Awards is certainly no surprise. His latest release Highest Praise features nine tracks of live studio music and impassioned lead vocals. Its diverse sound includes classic rock, Motown, gospel, and contemporary worship moments. Eight of the selections were written by Clayborn. Some of the songs are reminiscent of the legendary Stevie Wonder, while others feature a Humble Pie groove. The overall effect is one of a stirring, anthem-like sound.
As the team leader for worship arts at St. Stephen Church in Louisville, Clayborn has been nominated for eight Stellar Awards. His nominations include "you're all I need," a song he co-wrote with Hezekiah Walker. The group received four Grammy nominations for their debut album, God Made It Beautiful. The album earned nominations for Traditional Album of the Year, Praise & Worship Album of the Year, and Choir of the Year. He is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and performer who has appeared on multiple albums.
Atmosphere Changers nominated for eight Stellar Awards
The Atmosphere Changers were nominated for eight Stellar Awards on July 14. The group features members of the Gospel music genre. Members include Grammy-nominated Jason Clayborn and the vocal group The Atmosphere Changers. They will open the 36th Stellar Gospel Music Awards on Sunday, August 1 at 8 PM ET on Black Entertainment Television. They have written more than 100 songs. The song "You're All I Need" garnered nominations for the Grammy Award, Soul Train Award, and Billboard Music Awards.
This year, the Stellar Awards are returning to the stage after going virtual in 2017, due to pandemic lockdowns. Winners of select categories will be featured on social media platforms, with a total of over two million impressions. Steven Curtis Chapman nominated for seven Male Vocalist of the Year awards
Steven Curtis Chapman has received multiple nominations for his work, and he has won six Dove Awards. His albums have won numerous awards, including five for best artist. In addition, Chapman has won multiple Grammy Awards, including the Best Pop-Contemporary Album award in 2008.
Chapman grew up in Paducah, Kentucky, where he was raised by his father, a country-western songwriter who owned a music store. Growing up, Chapman learned to play several instruments, including piano and guitar. He later dropped out of a premed program at Anderson College to focus on music full-time. He toured with other country artists, performing at the Grand Ole Opry and winning several awards for songwriters. The success of his music and songwriter skills earned him nominations for multiple awards, including the Grammys, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
GMA Dove Awards
The Gospel Music Association Dove Awards are presented annually to recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in Christian music. This awards show celebrates the diverse musical genres that are part of Christian music, from hip-hop to metal and punk to Southern Gospel and country. This year's show will be hosted by for KING & COUNTRY, and will feature performances from Hillsong UNITED and Steven Curt Chad. The ceremony will air on Trinity Broadcasting Network.
The GMA Dove Awards have a long history of honoring gospel musicians. The program was launched with a surprise for long-time GMA President Jackie Patillo, and has since been named in her honor. Jonathan McReynolds served as co-host and co-producer of the event. The Dove Awards are broadcast on TBN and SiriusXM. In addition to the Grammy-nominated singers, several gospel artists were honored at the ceremony.
Spin Awards
The Spin Awards for Gospel Music are a series of awards that honor the best gospel music artists and performers. The event is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and is an opportunity to celebrate the many individuals in the industry who help spin the gospel message. The awards ceremony will also honor the Dope Women In Radio segment, which honors the contributions of women in Christian Gospel radio. Hosted by Dr. Sonya Hawthorne, the Dope Women In Radio ceremony will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel.
Nominations for the Spin Awards are accepted from Christian gospel radio organizations through Spin Affiliate Members. Nomination teams review the submissions and make their final decisions based on the information provided or at the organization's discretion. Criteria for eligibility include accuracy of information, spin quality, social media presence, and accessibility of the show to listeners. After reviewing all of the submissions, the nomination team will finalize the nominees. This year, more than 80 Christian gospel radio stations and programs will compete for the Spin Awards for Gospel Music.
