Hey guys, we are 10% there, thanks to those who have donated. We rode the trails today and heard great things, hope to get more donations to help us get more kids in the trails.
Did you know that one of the fastest growing area of mountain biking, and one of the fastest growing school sports in the country, is interscholastic league mountain bike racing (high school and middle school) which is overseen by NICA. YES, mountain biking is an emerging team sport in middle and high schools around the country that we are working to bring to our area! With over 18,000 student-athletes and 9,000 coaches, it is truly a sport for ALL kids of ALL ability levels. The fun and excitement of mountain biking is a great way to get kids off the couch and away from video games to help address the obesity problem we face in this area. The challenge we face in the Eastern Panhandle of WV and Northern Shenandoah Valley of Va. is that we do not have beginner-intermediate level trails suitable for kids new to the support and suitable for hosting NICA mountain bike races. The WV State Parks System and Superintendent of Cacapon State Park have stepped up and designated an area of the park not only for overall mountain bike trail construction, but also for a specific beginner mountain bike area that can be used as a NICA race course. The park has also approved a significant amount of funding to support the construction of these trails by a professional, environmentally conscious trail building company. We now need to match these funds to make these trails a reality so next year Cacapon has the ability to begin hosting NICA middle and high school mountain bike races for the local teams.... and that is the purpose of this campaign!
This program is supported by the Cacapon Resort State Park Foundation, the non-profit foundation that supports Cacapon. Your donations go to this foundation, so are tax deductible (contact us for a receipt) and go 100% toward building these new trails.
How did this get started?A large group of locals mountain bikers has been working with Cacapon for the past 2 years to develop the mountain bike trails in the park. When we started, there were no beginner trails, so nowhere any of us parents could bring our kids to get into the sport. We now have over 5 miles of intermediate level trails and plans for over 20 more miles of trails. Building the beginner loops and NICA race course is phase 1 of the campaign. Phase 2 is applying for a trail building grant (RTP) to begin building the more advanced trails higher up the mountain. The video on this page details this plan.
Thank you for your support!
