Just a update! We have reached over 50% of our goal for the Cecilia Goes to School Fundraiser! I really do not know how to express how grateful I am for the people that gave so selflessly. I want you to know that Cecilia and her mother have told me how thankful they are for the people that sent notes of encouragement and gave funds. Jescah is still working as a community health worker but she has also started training older girls that have had to drop out of school (currently she is working with 3 girls) in tailoring and sewing. She is hoping to give them skills that they can use to create an income for their families. They are creating beautiful clothes and we are working maybe starting a Etsy shop online for them! Anyways, great things are happening and we want to thank you all for being a part of this.

Educate a girl and you empower a whole nation.
Hujambo Rafiki! I am raising money for a 5 year old girl in Kisumu, Kenya. Her name is Cecilia and she is an extremely intelligent and beautiful little girl. Cecilia loves computers, bright colors and playing with her friends at the Obunga Community Center. She lives in an informal settlement in Kisumu called Obunga. The living conditions are very poor and her mother cannot afford to send her to school. Cecilia’s mother, Jescah, is a single mother of two daughters. I met Cecilia while I was doing research in Obunga on water quality. Her mother is a community health worker (CHW) and she, along with five other CHWs, assisted me with gathering the data I needed for my study. Cecilia is entering First Form this year! We are hoping to send Cecilia to Mudasa Academy in Kondele. The cost for Cecilia to attend? Only $500 USD. Cecilia has all the confidence and curiosity she needs. The only thing she requires from us is some assistance in taking the first steps toward the bright future that awaits her. I am a firm believer in education for girls. This is because I was also born in a developing country and I know that if it were not for people in my life that encouraged and supported me, I would not be where I am today. In the words of Queen Rania of Jordan, "I've always believed that when you educate a girl, you empower a nation." Together we can send Cecilia to school. Thank you for your generous donation!
