Keep it going: Share with friends
Hey friends! I'm raising money for a last-minute trip to build houses in Battambang, Cambodia for Habitat for Humanity. Donations are due October 15 (soon!) and are tax-deductible.

Update! I posted this on Facebook, but here it is again:
We raised a total of $2,610! We blew right past my goal of raising the trip fee. But it's a win-win because everything above that goes Habitat's ongoing efforts in Cambodia.

I'll be leaving in about a month
Hi, I’m Cindy from San Francisco! Traveling and food are my jams. (You can follow me on Instagram @snackysnackychompchomp.)
Me at Ankgor Wat.
I'll be building homes with a group of 12 people outside of Battambang, a town in the interior of Cambodia. Here's more info about the trip. I have less than two weeks to make the $1,770 fee (not including airfare) because I just decided to do it (classic Cindy).
In 2015 I stopped in Cambodia during a two-month solo food trip across Asia and spent a little time in the country, hiking to hidden Indiana Jones-esque temples at sunrise, getting impromptu palm readings from monks, eating bugs and frogs at rural markets, and drinking beer in hammocks at lakeside bbqs, thanks to my driver Sok Sotha, pictured below.
Me and my buddy Sok.
I had a great time, but what really made an impression on me was the people. They are the friendliest, happiest people you’ll ever meet, despite years of brutal genocide and devastating poverty.
A rural farmers' market.
Your gift, no matter how small, goes towards Habitat's efforts in Cambodia and trip expenses (like our meals and transportation). More information is available here.
The countryside is just gorgeous.
And the food is like, beyond.
If you're not familiar with Habitat for Humanity, it is a totally legit non-profit with projects all over the world, including the U.S. Help me fund my trip and support their ongoing efforts in endangered communities. Please donate now!
More than 25 percent of Cambodians live on the equivalent of less than $1.25 a day. In cities such as the capital, Phnom Penh, they frequently live in squatter settlements and slums; in rural areas, many live in inadequate housing made of bamboo or wooden walls and floors. Access to piped water and proper sanitation facilities is extremely low.
Habitat for Humanity Cambodia, which has been active since 2004, provides families with livelihood training such as agriculture, animal husbandry, business management and other initiatives such as liquid soap production and handicrafts in an effort to increase daily income and family savings. We are working on a five-year initiative that aims to assist 10,000 low-income families.
Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
