Everyone eats and we need more places for us to join together to prepare and eat good food!
Stonewall Youth is converting our tiny kitchen into a larger Community Kitchen for our LGBTQ2S+ youth participants and a wide range of other community members.
About Stonewall Youth: Founded in 1991, Stonewall Youth is a youth-led organization in Olympia, WA that empowers LGBTQ+ youth to speak for themselves, support each other, educate our communities, and work for social justice. We serve three primarily rural counties in southwestern Washington: Thurston, Mason, and Lewis. Stonewall Youth is youth-led and adult-supported. We are operated by a staff collective of seven Co-Directors (five youth up to age 22 and two non-youth). Most of our programs are for LGBTQ2S+ youth ages 21 and under, but we offer some programs for folks up to age 25. More below!
The Community Kitchen: Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to purchase our fabulous HQ in downtown Olympia in 2018. One of our big dreams when we purchased our building was to install a Community Kitchen. We've made many improvements in our space and we're ALMOST done with the kitchen!
We need your help to finish the final steps, including needed plumbing, electrical work, kitchenware, and a kitchen island so there's plenty of room to prep food.
Stonewall Youth participants regularly voice a desire for a full community kitchen for these and more reasons:
Greater access to healthy meals and snacks during Stonewall activities and events;
Increased opportunities for community meals;
A place for houseless youth to store and cook food;
A site to prepare food for fundraisers and other community gatherings;
The opportunity to support young aspiring entrepreneurs who want to make sellable items, teach cooking classes, and host food-oriented events, and more;
A place for community members to prepare food to deliver to people who are food insecure;
The ability to host cooking classes for youth and other community members.
Several of our allied social justice organizations share this desire for a Community Kitchen.
We are so excited to invite our community members in to cook, teach classes and workshops, collaborate, learn more about food sustainability, host events, and create a vibrant space for everyone. We believe that everyone should have access to fresh, nutritious food and we're thrilled that you have joined us on this journey!
Your donations will help make all of these dreams a reality. Your efforts will literally taste delicious when you see the amazing things being made in our Community Kitchen! So what are you waiting for? Donate now and help transform our HQ into an even better gathering place for friends old and new! Thank you for your support!
