About Me

I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity for a few years and now I will be stepping up to the big leagues—Global Village.  For my first trip, I will be going to Poland in April of next year.  I chose this particular trip for many reasons, but it is largely about my family.  I have a lot of family that is Polish, so I have been exposed to a lot of the culture and food over the years—my grandfather used to play the accordion and sing “Happy Birthday” in Polish to each of us every year.  Poland is also the home of many of our Polaris family members and I’m very excited for the opportunity to help them with the housing struggles there.

I would like to ask you for any help you can provide for Habitat Poland.  A small portion of the funds I raise will go towards my trip costs (food, lodging, etc.), but the rest of it will go directly towards the materials and resources needed for new homes in Poland.  If you are interested in knowing more about how Habitat is helping Poland, please visit this site: https://www.habitat.org/where-we-build/poland

Since this is my first trip, please donate in amounts ending in the number 1! I will not forget the generosity of every dollar!

More Info

Economic Housing Institute research indicates that almost one in four apartments in Poland should be condemned. Of the existing housing stock, approximately one in eight do not have a kitchen, and almost one in ten share a toilet with an entire floor of apartments or have no indoor facility at all. With a severe affordable housing shortage, low-income families often have no choice but to live in substandard housing that threatens their health and safety.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
