Covid Relief - Lost Wages

Update #1

I've moved on from my previous workplace. Things were not going to work out, but for the moment online teaching jobs are available and I believe I have found a good one.

We are in the middle of applying for a SSN for our daughter. Since a few students have started coming back for tutoring, we were able to pay for the lengthy application process, as well as fix all my immigration paperwork for another year. Additionally, I will be paying the amount I owe to H&R Block this month.

We've found out that if our daughter's SSN is issued before the IRS deadline in October, we will be getting a modest refund. This could be a nice way to close out this challenging year.

I've taken a lower-paying job in exchange for less stress and nonsense. I was enjoying my previous job, but it was not going to last. We've learned to make the money go a lot farther, so I want everyone to know that we won't sink if people can't donate. The money at this point will simply go towards catching up with everything, and putting the money back in our daughter's savings that we've had to pull out.

Thanks to everyone who has helped in any way!

More Info

I was hired by my school in December of last year, but because of Covid I was unable to start until February of this year, and at a different branch of the school.  This school offered me a significantly lower starting pay, and on top of that I’ve been under a probationary salary since I began.

Additionally, I am not eligible for any of the beneficiary stimulus money or tax credits because neither my wife or daughter have an American SSN.  I have had to file single with no dependents because we were not able to get our daughter an American SSN during the pandemic.

Two weeks ago, a group of teachers went to Phuket and all came back with Covid, causing our school to shut down and my wife and I to cancel our tutoring classes for the month.  We have three clients who were going to renew with us, but now we won’t be starting back until next month at the earliest.  These off months are when we normally make our most money, as our students generally attend daily (as opposed to once or twice a week).

Estimated total income lost – $600 in regular tutoring fees.

Now I owe the IRS for our small business as well, and things have piled up quickly.  I owe H&R Block $400 this year (instead of my normal $175), and I also owe the government a $500 small business tax.  I am reluctant to do this, but I need a bit of help recovering some wages and covering mine and my wife’s bills on a probationary salary of what is as of right now only $1,200 / month.

$1,500 breakdown:

$420 - H&R Block

$580 - IRS

$500 - Bills (that would have been covered by our tutoring money)

Any help is appreciated.
