About Me

To my friends, family, and co-workers; as you all know I have a passion for traveling and building relationships with strangers across the globe. Over the past three years I've taken on the challenge of traveling solo across the world; this was done with my own interests in mind. I've seen and learned a lot from my travels; about the world and it's people. No matter who you are or where you are, you deserve to have a place to sleep at night. I think we can all agree on that. Unfortunately that's not the case for many across the globe. A home can change the lives of so many, providing protection and a path forward. Now I've decided to challenge myself to travel with a purpose - to help make a better world. I will be joining with Habitat for Humanity to help make improvements to a struggling community in Malawi (East Africa). I will be helping along with a team of builders and everyday people to help give these people a path forward (a future); a base to build from. We will be building shelters and making improvements to sanitation systems for orphans and vulnerable families living in this community. I'm extremely excited to have been given this opportunity and to be accepted to work with this team; it will definitely be a life changing experience for everyone involved. Now that you've read the exciting news here's where I need some of your help :). Each team member has been tasked with raising $2,149. This money goes directly towards the build. Any money donated exceeding this amount will go directly towards future builds for Habitat for Humanity. This money is by no means for me. I will personally be covering my own costs of travel, etc. If you can help you know it would mean a great deal to me. With every brick I lay or stone I put up I will be including the names of my donors. Plus I will make sure you see where your money went with all my beautiful pictures I will share with all of you. Everyone has the opportunity to help make a difference in the world and right now it's my time! Please help out if you can.

More Info

Malawi is a country of immense beauty — and extreme poverty. It is one of the least developed countries in the world. The economy is predominately agricultural and is dependent on substantial international assistance.

Seventy-five percent of the population lives on less than US$2 a day. Because of the widespread poverty, four out of five families live in substandard homes, with little hope of ever being able to afford a decent house. A typical village hut is built of mud and daub with a dirt floor and thatched roof. The conditions put families at high risk of disease.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi, established in 1986, constructs houses of burnt clay bricks, concrete floors and tile roofs. More than 5,000 houses have been built so far. By providing improved housing to families, Habitat Malawi has enhanced lives and reduced the occurrence of malaria, respiratory illnesses and intestinal parasites.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
