Compassion 4 Paws

OUR HOPE To leave no adoptable dogs behind

MISSION To provide a safe haven and the care needed for adoptable large breed dogs that would otherwise die in shelters

WHAT KEEPS US GOING There are far too many Labradors and Retrievers, mixed and pure breeds, young and old; and, as we can, other breeds of dogs left behind to die. We will work to give them hope and a chance at Life. We will provide a soft bed, safety, medical care, training, and love to rehabilitate those we can, giving them a new chance at life.

WHAT WE BELIEVE All canine companions deserve a dignified existence regardless of age, health, or past history. Dogs are resilient creatures which, with love, support, and proper nutrition and medical care, can be reintegrated into a home to bond with a forever family.

WHO WE ARE A grassroots network of 500+ volunteers with an overwhelming sense of compassion and love for our canine companions. Through our active network of dedicated volunteers, we are able to make a real difference in the lives of over 1,000 dogs from shelters in San Diego County and across Southern California annually saving over 3,500 dogs in four short years!

WHAT WE DO We partner with trainers, veterinarians, shelters, volunteers, and adoptive families, so we can provide continued support to the dogs that we have rescued and homed. We accomplish this through a variety of fundraising events and regular adoption events both in San Diego and North County.

HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR MISSIONYou can help support this important work in so many ways. If you have money butno time, consider making a tax-deductible donation. If you have time but nomoney, consider volunteering. If you have love to give, consider fostering oradopting one of our dogs. These gentle souls ask for so little, yet deserve so muchmore. We hope you can help us provide that comfort in whatever manner worksbest for you.

Our Stories:

Ressa & Pups!

At only a year old herself, Ressa ended up in the shelter system pregnant. Once we learned of Ressa we rushed to get her from the shelter. By then, she was within days of delivering. She was taken directly to the hospital for veterinary care and then to an experienced puppy foster home where the real work began. Within days, Ressa delivered 10 adorable and healthy babies even while not feeling well herself. Ressa was rushed to Pet Emergency and Specialty Center (PESC) with her pups in tow. She was in very critical condition and throughout the night we worried about losing her and her babies.PESC was asked to fight to keep Ressa and her 10 puppies alive, which will certainly prove to be a big and expensive task. However, there was no doubt in our mind that we would do whatever was necessary to save the lives of these 11 dogs. Without us intervening, Ressa and her unborn pups would surely have been euthanized at the shelter.

Maggie May:

Maggie May…her family drove her to the shelter and told the officer they had bought a new little breed puppy a few months ago and were moving into a new apartment that only allowed one dog so they had to get rid of one. Within days of arriving at the shelter Maggie became depressed, contracted Kennel Cough and was put on their euthanasia list because she was sick.  We made that 5 hour round trip drive for Maggie, She landed immediately in a foster home and got the care she needed. Today this is Maggie with her new forever family…as it should be!

George

Less than one year old, this beautiful Black Labrador was found lying beside the road in almost a lifeless heap. The person who stopped for him thought he was dead, but then George lifted his head ever so slightly as if to say, please don’t leave me here. He was transported directly to our Vet’s office and was in X-ray within hours. Even hearing that he will need a plate in his thigh from a severely broken leg, and another in his hip from broken hip bone, and that he had other wounds as well, our Volunteers agreed to do what we could to save this boy’s life and save his legs. Sadly each of his back legs are broken which makes this even harder for George.

This journey for George has just begun and we cannot do this without your help. You see this surgery must be done by a specialist as his bones are severely damaged. Even after a kind discount from both our Veterinarians, his surgery will cost close to $9,000, hard to handle for a non profit organization. We cannot do this without your help.

Over 3,000 Dogs and Puppies have been touched by the people here today!

* This is a Family Fun Run with No Chip Timing and No Street Closures.
