About The Team

I started working at Horizons in September 2018. I was amazed and unaware of the huge need to provide free cancer screening for so many people in our community, right here in Albany. As a navigator, I schedule cancer screening appointments, provide the necessary navigation through the entire process and insure the patient communicates with his primary care physician for test results.

To quote one of my patients, “Mr. Wingfield, if you had not helped me, called to check on me and encouraged me to keep my appointment, I would not have gone for my colonoscopy.  I put it off for years because I didn’t want to do it and didn’t have the money to pay for it. Thank you for being there for me”.

The Community Cancer Screening Program (CCSP) was developed in 2008 and research-tested to reduce colorectal cancer screening disparities among low-income, uninsured primary care patients. I’m proud to be a part of this life saving work.  Regular colorectal screenings can prevent colorectal cancer or improve your survival outcome. With screenings, doctors can find and remove pre-cancerous polyps during a routine procedure.

As a Horizons navigator, I am assigned to Albany Area Primary Healthcare clinics in East Albany, Baker County, and Phoebe Meredyth. Assisting my patients to have a healthy outcome is one of the biggest rewards in my life.

During the organizations first annual Horizons “Day for Hope,” a day that leverages the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage generosity and philanthropic participation, every dollar raised will be used locally in South Georgia communities. For example: A one-time gift of $1,200 will provide mammograms for ten women. In addition to medical resources, Horizons also offers the community ongoing education about conditions such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, tobacco control and more.

Horizons has linked together with other organizations and individuals, making it possible to include all community members in Day for Hope. A day-long challenge campaign is scheduled to air on WALB that will include testimonials from patients, physicians, and community leaders.

The Day for Hope will also include a ribbon cutting and open house at the new office located at 2332 Lake Park Drive. Join us to raise Hope for southwest Georgia.
