Update #6

Thanks to all of those who have donated to me, because of that I am now 1/2 of the way to paying for the registration/program fees! Remember any gift is tax deductible!

About Me

I have worked at Habitat for Humanity International for 21 years! Yet in all this time I have never gone on a Carter Work Project (CWP). This event is one of HFHI's biggest annual building events, with President and Mrs. Carter building along side others. This year, the event will take place in Memphis, TN, not far from where I live. In addition, since having my gastric bypass procedure in late 2015, I have lost a large amount of weight, so I am feeling better than ever. So I figured it was the perfect time to finally do a CWP!

Help families in Memphis build strength, stability and independence.

Despite Memphis’ rich history and culture, nearly 1 in 3 Memphis residents live below the poverty line, and about 1 in 10 Memphians have an income at 50 percent or below that level.

Together we can make a difference!

President and Mrs. Carter will join the people of Memphis and hundreds of volunteers to build and revitalize the Uptown neighborhood just north of Memphis’ historic downtown. Your generous support will ensure the success of this project.

To contribute to a volunteer’s fundraising efforts, please visit the Team page at this link and find the volunteer you'd like to support.

About Habitat for Humanity:

Habitat for Humanity International’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Anchored by the conviction that housing provides a path out of poverty, since 1976 Habitat has helped more than 5 million people through home construction, rehabilitation and repairs and by increasing access to improved shelter through products and services. Habitat also advocates to improve access to decent and affordable shelter and offers a variety of housing support services that enable families with limited means to make needed improvements on their homes as their time and resources allow. As a nonprofit Christian housing organization, Habitat works in more than 70 countries and welcomes people of all races, religions and nationalities to partner in its mission. About the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project:

Often referred to as Habitat for Humanity’s “most famous volunteers,” President and Mrs. Carter give a week of their time each year to help Habitat build, renovate or repair homes in order to shed light on the critical role decent housing plays in helping families build strength, stability and independence.  Through the years, Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project has drawn more than 92,260 enthusiastic volunteers who have rolled up their sleeves and done what’s needed to improve access to affordable housing. These selfless volunteers have built, renovated and repaired 3,944 homes in 14 countries since 1984.

Update #5

Thanks to the support so far, I am only 75 dollars short of being half way home for the paying off the registration fee for this event. And all of this in just over a week. I am amazed and astounded and frankly touched by the generosity of people so far. Thank you so much!

Update #3

These are the milestone dates and amounts, so we can all follow along with my progress:
--June 10th: raise at least 350 to pay the program fee deposit
--June 30th: raise at least 1,000.00 total (so an addition 650 over the deposit fee) to pay the rest of the program fee, due July 1st.
--July 20th: raise at least 1,750.00 total to pay for airline tickets and other upfront costs.
--August 15th: raise at least 2,250. This will cover meals (dinners) not included in the programing fee and other incidentals.
--August 20th: meet or exceed the total of 2,500 total! Used to make a donation to the host affiliate Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis . I have learned from my years at HFHI that host affiliates can often struggle financially after the attention of the CWP has passed. Making a donation to them in addition to what is included in the program fee helps ensure they can easily carry on their important work.

Update #1

Learning the ropes on how to use this fundraising platform. I have never fundraised for myself before, so this is a whole new world to me. It is odd to basically ask others for money, but I need help in order to help make this happen. Thanks in advance!
