I am helping our 5th grade classes fundraise for admission and transportation costs for their field trip to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, California.

I am a 5th grade teacher at a Title 1 school in Sacramento, California, where the majority of students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. Our classrooms are quite diverse and the challenges they face are just as diverse.
They love to collaborate with one another, whether it's a social studies project, working out a challenging math problem, or discussing a hypothesis for a scientific question.
Our students are very excited about attending the California Academy of Sciences because they have been studying the Earth's Systems, Space Systems, and Engineering Design, which fulfills part of our Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). However, many of our families do not have the financial means to pay for their children's field trips.
At the academy, they will learn about marine life at the Steinhart Aquarium, take a journey through our solar system at the Morrison Planetarium, step in the world of the Osher Rainforest, and experience the rolling hills and fields on the Living Roof on the top of the Academy.
