Student Ecuador and Galapagos Trip Scholarship Fund

Student Ecuador and Galapagos Trip Scholarship Fund

From Kristen Mcdermott

I am raising money to send one student who would not otherwise have the funds to experience this amazing opportunity. This student has yet to be chosen but will be through an application process based on need.

More Info

I am an Environmental Science and Biology teacher at Centaurus High School. Three years ago I took a group of students on a sustainability tour to Europe through Education First, a student travel organization. Two years ago I planned a trip restoring coral reef habitats in the Dominican Republic, but that never happened due to COVID. This June,  I am traveling with 32 students to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. The trip is rooted in biological concepts that students will learn through experience. We will visit a cloud forest, go white-water rafting, and visit the Darwin Institute.

The trip is not cheap. It is $4,500 plus passport fees as well as incidentals while on the trip. This price tag means that a lot of students who would like to go are unable to. I would like to help host one student who does not have the funds to experience this opportunity. Students on the tour can receive college credit as well. All funds will be used for the trip. If the trip does not happen as a result of COVID. then the funds will be saved for our trip next year (location yet to be determined).
