About Me

Hi! I’m Eilidh and I’m one of the co-chairs for TAC’s Teen Court Committee. Along with my co-chairs and the members of our committee, we work to make restorative justice happen in Vanderburgh County. I have been involved in YR programming for the last four years and I am grateful for every minute of it! I was first introduced to YR through Teen Power camp, but have quickly jumped into the programs in any way I could. Now, I volunteer every week with Teen Court and serve on TAC’s Executive Committee to make sure TAC runs smoothly and effectively. I love connecting with our members at meetings and seeing the fruits of my work with restorative justice in our respondents at Teen Court. YR has given me a space to grow and lead in community—and see what that can do for others. I am so lucky to have this organization and I have witnessed first hand how much it does for both the students and organizations it serves. Because YR matters so much to me, I want to ensure YR can mean this much to others well into the future. That’s where you come in! I would be endlessly grateful if you would donate—anything is helpful!—to support me and these programs that I adore.

More Info

Vanderburgh County Teen Court is a restorative justice-based diversion program that serves first-time juvenile offenders and middle school and high school student volunteers (8th-12th grade). Respondents are sentenced at a hearing of their peers who volunteer to serve as jury members, prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, bailiff, and judge’s assistant and who are mentored by adult attorneys. Teen Court provides respondents and youth volunteers with the mentors, education, tools, and resources to make positive, healthy choices.

YR’s law enforcement and probation partners refer young offenders to Teen Court as a voluntary alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system. Juveniles charged with a low-level offense can forgo the formal hearing and sentencing procedures of juvenile court and participate in a sentencing forum made up of a jury of their peers. Teen Court is not a mock hearing. Youth volunteers take their roles seriously and recognize that it is a privilege and responsibility to participate and to have the opportunity to help a peer.

What is YR Day?

YR Day is a 24-hour online party and fundraising event for YR and the people who make YR possible (that’s you). Whether you’re a student, alumni, parent, volunteer or just a fan with a special place in your heart for YR - this celebration is for you!

Now, you might be asking, “If YR Day is a celebration for me, then why am I being asked to give?”

The truth is, the life changing programs that YR provides to area youth are largely dependent on private support. So while celebrating YR’s present and past is definitely worthwhile, it’s also our responsibility to look ahead to future students. Their YR experiences are not yet guaranteed, which is why we ask for your help.
