About Me

Hello my name is Emily Bovasso and I am a sophomore at Wagner College and President of its Habitat for Humanity chapter. It has always been a dream of mine to travel to another country to help those in need, and with your help, I can accomplish such goal. My freshman year I had the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat and rebuild homes in Staten Island damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Witnessing first hand the destruction and devastation caused by Sandy, has fueled my desire to do more, and has encouraged me to make service an important part of my life. Aside from Habitat for Humanity, I am a brother and VP of service of Wagner’s Alpha Phi Omega club, an international co-ed fraternity that specializes in service. I am also an EMT and volunteer at my town’s first aid squad. An honors student, biology major, and in the pre-health program, I hope to one day become a doctor. The life-changing experiences and rewarding opportunities I will gain from volunteering in El Salvador, will not only benefit those in El Salvador, but will allow me to become a better and stronger person. I would like to personally thank you so much for your help and support throughout my journey.

About El Salvador

Home to almost 6 million people, El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. Still struggling with the consequences of a 12-year civil war and constantly affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes and tropical storms, almost 3 million Salvadorans live in inadequate housing.

Since 1992, Habitat for Humanity El Salvador has provided more than 7,400 housing solutions, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than 37,000 Salvadorians.

We invite you to join our Global Village team in partnering with families in need to help build safe, affordable, decent homes.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
