About Me

My name is Faith Schwartz and I am from State College PA. I will be graduating high school in June and have been accepted at Lock Haven University; however, I chose to defer and take a gap year. In searching for gap year programs I came across Habitat For Humanity's Global Village program. Habitat for Humanity seemed like a good place to start in my research since my family and I have been the recipients of housing assistance. The Poland build in particular caught my eye. With heritage and family from Poland I felt it sounded like a good fit for me. I applied and was accepted, but I need financial help to get there and back. I am excited to have an overseas experience that entails a worthwhile cause. Thank you for anything that you do to support me and help make this a reality :)

More Info

Economic Housing Institute research indicates that almost one in four apartments in Poland should be condemned. Of the existing housing stock, approximately one in eight do not have a kitchen, and almost one in ten share a toilet with an entire floor of apartments or have no indoor facility at all. With a severe affordable housing shortage, low-income families often have no choice but to live in substandard housing that threatens their health and safety.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
