More Info

On August 10, a natural gas explosion changed the lives of Flower Branch apartment residents forever. The tragedy struck the Silver Spring, Maryland community during the early morning hours, injuring more than 40 residents and killing seven people, including two young children.

While the survivors of the tragedy struggle to bring normalcy back to their lives, many of the children are still traumatized by the events of that morning.

Help these young victims to use the joy of reading as part of their healing process.

  • All donations will be used to purchase brand new books for affected children in the Long Branch community.
  • With the power of the First Book network, every $3.00 = 1 brand new book.
  • All books become the children's personal possessions, helping to rebuild their home libraries.

First Book is an award-winning, nonprofit social enterprise that provides new books, learning materials and other essentials to children in need. First Book has distributed more than 150 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families throughout the United States and Canada.
