More Info

Since childhood I’ve had a passion for helping others. I spent my youth volunteering at low income schools, churches, and local sports events. When I began my college journey, my mom suddenly passed and my father fell into a depression. I’m sure it would have been easy to give up, but my parents worked tirelessly so that I might have the opportunity to become the first in my family to obtain a degree in higher education. I have worked diligently to put myself through college, however, being in a masters program is more costly than I can manage. I’ve had to take out loans, but even that has not been enough to cover education costs or the cost of living.

I’ve never had to ask for financial assistance in this manner, so this is quite uncomfortable for me. But my drive to become a mental health worker is more important than this discomfort. I’ve spent years working with at risk foster youth and individuals with developmental disabilities, so I am certain that I’m on the right path. Once I graduate, I hope to be a counselor for troubled youth. Sometimes it only takes one positive relationship to make a significant difference in a child life; I hope I get the opportunity to be that person.
