Dearest kind folks,
We would like to make an affection and urgent appeal to you. We are heartened that there are many humanitarian efforts in Cambodia to assist with Cambodians that are in need during these difficult times, especially as the country struggles with the Covid-19 pandemic. However, even more assistance would be appreciated as the citizens in the rural parts of the country will need all the help they can get.
According to the World Health Organization “Cambodia is making steady but insufficient progress in meeting water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) targets. Despite improvements in WASH systems and practices, Cambodia has the highest rate of open defecation in the region, with eight in ten of the poorest rural Cambodians defecating out in fields, in open bodies of water, or other open spaces, rather than using a toilet. This continues to be a dangerous challenge, as human waste near waterways and houses spreads diseases quickly and puts children and their families at risk.”
Even to this day, 1 in 3 Cambodians, that is 5million people lacking access to clean drinking water, of which children are the most at risk, dying from preventable water sanitation causes in their local communities. In rural areas of the country, people have very limited understanding of the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene which is part of the contributing factor in addition to not having the means to attain clean drinking water that would greatly improve their living condition.
All kind and generous donations will go towards the red cross society’s WASH programme into improving the lives of families in 22 communities in areas of construction of shallow tube well, water filtration system as other water and sanitation facilities. And again, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our heart for your help today in improving lives.
