Supplemental Educational Services Is Necessary - The impact of COVID-19 on K-12 didn't help any students that were already being left behind. Since the hit of Covid-19, students learning were left 6 months into one year behind or more in mathematics and
reading on average. It's simply more practical to do something about it before the end of the next school year. The pandemic widened achievement gaps, severely affecting already
disadvantaged students with 2023 potentially adding more than a year of students being behind.
- In mathematics, students in most minority schools
finished the past few years with a 7-8 month amount of unfinished learning. Moreover, students in
low-income educational institutes finished the year with five-seven months of
unfinished learning. The pandemic also affected high school students, who were
likely to drop out of school.
- GALA is focusing on
addressing unfinished learning through high-impact tutoring, life skills development, and language development for ESL students along with improving community-based resources for the home.
- Utilizing our services to address unfinished learning is necessary to recover the learning loss in our underserved communities. However, it is only the first step in providing personalized support to students who are
behind. Our goal is to accomplish a holistic educational team program. Let's help students reach their full potential by supporting them in completing their diplomas/degrees, lessening crime rates, and poverty while improving more unstable homes.
