Born on an Air Force Base in Spain, Amanda was raised in Texas, lived in New York and has recently moved to Los Angeles. Amanda’s work has received international recognition and in 2017, garnered her a prestigious DGA Jury Award. She most recently shadowed director, John Hyams on Chicago PD and was invited in her second year of graduate school by the producers of Dick Wolf’s Chicago Med to be a shadowing director for two episodes shadowing Donald Petrie and the show’s Co-Executive Producer Michael Waxman.
Knox participated in the competitive Filmmaker-In-Residence program with Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) providing her with invaluable mentorship for her high impact thesis film, Night Call.
Night Call beat the odds winning the top festival prize at Academy Qualifying Bermuda International Film Festival where acclaimed producer Christine Vachon was one of three jurors. This festival win qualified Night Call for a 2019 Live Action Short Academy Award. Night Call has won 41 top festival awards worldwide garnering Knox with numerous Best Director and Emerging Filmmaker Prizes. Other notable awards and prizes include Cannes, American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase and Caucus Foundation Gold Circle Award. In addition to these awards Night Call aired on PBS, locally and nationally in 2019 and had a limited theatrical release that was curated by Ann Hornaday, Washington Post chief film critic.
A lover of action/suspense, Amanda's desire is to continue to create immersive films that engage audiences both viscerally and intellectually. Nate Kohn, film critic of Chicago Sun Times, Ebertfest Director and Peabody Award Associate Director, describes her work as “really well made, powerful work”. She is currently directing/producing a film written by Chris Innis (Academy Award winning Editor, The Hurt Locker). Knox was selected to participate in the highly selective Ryan Murphy Half Initiative and shadowed 911- Lone Star director Gweneth Horder Payton in February 2020. She will be developing a limited series during The Story Summit this fall that was started by former Paramount President, David Paul Kirkpatrick.
From the beginning, it was always the word. Through the unique ability to imagine and connect to one another through words, humankind stepped into greatness.
Had it not been for Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, our hearts may never have known compassion for the poor.
Had it not been for Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, there may have never have been a civil rights movement.
Had it not been for Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, A Ghost Story, there may never have been the charitable component associated with the holiday.
We need one another. Had Ernest Hemingway not encouraged J.D. Salinger, there may never have been The Catcher in the Rye
The writer’s life can be lonely, so it is important to connect them with professionals who can support them in their storytelling and a lifetime of stories.
We see people, not writers. We are inspired by their passion and their willingness to give themselves up for their story.
We see equal value in all writers. We are dedicated to improving the lives of every storyteller we work with.
We build partnerships around the world with like-minded dreamers interested in building a better tomorrow through the future of storytelling.
The Mission of the Storyteller Foundation is to elevate the human experience through stories that inspire and encourage.
