Helping Jennifer to have a better life

I want to thank you for taking the time to read my fundraiser. 

Since 2011, I have gone through a very difficult time and it’s been very challenging ever since. 

I moved back into the Skyline Apartments in Syracuse, NY in May 2010 after living in St. Paul, Minnesota for several years.  A little over a year after my move in 2011, the major arteries in both of my legs collapsed.  Since then, I continue to have on going medical issues with my legs relating to the major arteries collapsing.  From 2010 to 2014 I was paying for my own health insurance, because I was working for a Temp Agency that didn’t offer insurance.  By the beginning of 2014, I had gone through all my savings to pay for my health insurance and medical bills.  In September 2014, I started dating an individual who lives in Monsey.  Shortly after we started dating, he became extremely abusive and it was a horrifying experience.  I knew that this wasn’t right, and I needed to get medical help for myself.  I called one of the local hospitals in Syracuse and they had a counseling program with Syracuse University.  I was matched with a wonderful Therapist who specialized in Marriage, Individual and Children’s counseling.  I met with her once a week for six months.  At that time, I was working for a non for profit and my salary was very low.  My copay each week was $50.00, and after a few sessions I was struggling to pay.  The counseling sessions were amazing - I was able to leave my abuser and learn how to recognize signs of abuse going forward.  At the beginning of 2017, I had an injured my left leg, the muscles in my foot detached from the bone.  From March 2017 to August 2017 I was crutches and in a leg brace.  I had to see my regular Doctor plus a Specialist regularly and the medical bills continued to pile up.  At that time, I was working for a different company and the insurance coverage was a high deductible - high copay plan.  Since March 2020, I have been in the emergency room on three different occasions.  When I was in the emergency room in March 2020, I had no health insurance – because I was working for a temp agency at that time.  The medical bills from the emergency room visit and the follow up appointments were several thousands of dollars.  I have tried to get help through Social Services and Jewish Family Servers and unfortunately, I simply make dollars over the limit to qualify for help. 

A few years ago, the apartment building that I was living in was bought by a new owner.  Sadly, the apartment building became deplorable very quickly.  The building was taken over by drug dealers, drugs, crime, and filth.  In a six-month period, there were over 500 calls to the Police Department.  This past February, I was attacked in the laundry room.  At the end of March, I had to call 911, because someone tried to break into my apartment.  Also, in March, a 93-year-old former Elementary School Teacher was murder in my apartment building.  After the murder, the Mayor of Syracuse found the building unfit for human occupancy.  I have included some of the news articles below regarding the Skyline.  It became unsafe to live in my apartment building and I was struggling to find an apartment because of my medical debt.  Gratefully, someone was willing to give me a chance and I moved to my new apartment at the beginning of June.

I still have over $24,000.00 in medical debt that I need to pay.  With the move, I am having a difficult time getting back on my feet and I still need help getting basic items for my new apartment.  I’m behind on my medical insurance.  If I don’t pay my premium by August 31, I lose my insurance coverage.  If you can help by donating and sharing my fundraiser with people you know, I would greatly appreciate it.  Every donation is important and there is no donation to small.  All the donations that I receive will be used to pay my medical bills and help with my apartment.
