My dream is to be able to retire in my own home.

When I moved to the Florida Keys to begin my position as an Art Teacher (my dream job), I began renting. Eventually the house sold and I was looking again. Prices rose.
Faster than my salary.
I purchased a cement sailboat and moved aboard with my dog and a couple of cats. Hurricane Andrew, and then The Storm of The Century ended that.
I rented again; same outcome.
“Virginia Creeper”, a 1969 Boatel, has been my home ever since.
It is a pretty cool life, BUT, put camping on the water, with tropical storms and hurricanes in your minds eye; and your HOUSE can sink!
In four years, I retire, and wish to stay here, but in a safer and stable home. In this crazy COVID initiated market, I am finding it impossible. Cash is king, big investors scooping up everything.
I brain stormed sources of funding this idea was formed.
My ideal home incorporates garden space, an art studio/workshop, is waterfront, and is as much off grid as possible incorporating solar, water reclamation and other sustainable living options.
Solutions/Options:
1. Shared Housing: A partnership or group housing scenario. Do you, or someone you know have the same interest/situation?
2. Foundation Funding: Private or public foundations that focus on housing for teachers.
4. Grants: Public or private sources.
5. Loans: Mortgages with Teacher benefits/assistance.
6. Mutual benefit land use: Trade parcel or cottage on premises in exchange for shared assistance such as security of another person on premises and light duties such as yard upkeep etc. This is an ideal model for individuals living alone. Peace of mind security and a helping hand.
7. Model home project: Home manufacturing is exciting and has reached new levels of production and environmental resistance. Factory builds and 3/D printing are hot topics. I am interested in participating in a model project for the Keys. Low impact: high security. Can I showcase your design for you?
Additionally, the Keys is such a special and delicate space. Commerce and development are at odds with the natural space and its inhabitants. I am, have been, and wish to continue to be engaged in projects that help to make improvements and assist where I am able.
