In the US, nearly 40% of students with disabilities don’t graduate high school, and more than 50% of youth on the autism spectrum don’t participate in post-secondary employment or education. Strengthening communication and social skills is a critical piece of changing this picture. But all too often, youth find social skills instruction to be dull, dated, or cheesy. And the last thing educators need is another scripted, one-size-fits-all program.
This is where we step in. In our camps and classes, instructors show educators how to use improv as a teaching tool and coach them as they apply these improv skills with youth on the spectrum. For youth on the spectrum, improv is a fun and spontaneous way to build on prior knowledge, experiences, and interests while strengthening communication and social skills. For educators, improv is a practical, flexible, and effective way to motivate and teach youth who can be difficult to engage in traditional instruction.
Your generous gift will keep our innovative programs free for educators and teens with autism. You are helping to transform lives through improv!
