Victim's story:
At the age of 17, Taru* was married to a man through an arranged marriage by her parents. She gave birth to twins a year after she married and throughout her pregnancy was beaten by a broom by her alcoholic husband. He spent all their income on alcohol and failed to meet the bare minimum needs of the family. In Taru's words, "I'm so scared of living with him, if I say something that is wrong in his opinion he severely beats me and my children too. He has no love or mercy towards me and my children."
The Sambol Foundation helped Taru and her children escape the abusive marriage and provided them a safe space to live and heal. While under the care of the Foundation, Taru and her children are receiving education and vocational training for a successful future.
