At The J. Atterby Fields Foundation, we are a 501c3, non-profit corporation in Los Angeles organized specifically to serve, enlighten, and educate low-income, under-served families in the Leimert Park and Crenshaw Districts. Your support would enable us to bring an ice skating rink to the aforementioned communities— to accompany our annual Holiday Cheer Toy Giveaway! Servicing more than 300 children and families each year.
We realize how important it is to create a safe space to bring the members of our communities together. Creating this ice-skating event can help do just that by bringing family, friends, and fun all together in one place. This simple yet fun activity promotes wellness to an underprivileged/underserved community, lacking access to an environment that exposes options for enrichment and a healthier lifestyle.
The J. Atterby Fields Foundation is dedicated to creating a place in the community that will bring families back together. Bridging the generational gap that has been increased through the use of technology has affected families across the nation. With increased numbers in childhood obesity among inner city children, inadequate funding in schools for physical activities, and the countless hours spent by adolescents and children playing video games watching television and or social media sites has crippled many into a state of inactivity. Our goal is to facilitate a program that will give families an alternative to staying active, having fun, and getting fit together. By combining the use of technology and a variety of physically challenging activities for all ages, we can give families of Urban communities access to a healthier lifestyle.
