Despite the COVID 19 pandemic The Lee Lions are providing community service in 2020 at a higher level than ever. We have helped the Lee Food Pantry, the Lee schools’ meals program and distributed masks through local churches and town hall. If you would like to learn more you can see our website, call us, or email us. We need new members and would be pleased to discuss how you could help.
Even though our need is greater our fund raising has diminished significantly. In the past we held a Duck Race on Founders’ Day, Toll Stops on summer Saturdays, Tanglewood events, bowl a thon and Comedy Show planned for last spring. All of these fundraisers were cancelled due to the pandemic.
The money we raise goes to fund local, regional, national, and international funds. We offer scholarships, eyeglasses, eyesight screening for those who cannot afford them, sponsor local youth, maintain a garden at the Turnpike entrance and many more local efforts. Our Lions District has an Emergency Sight fund we support. Many local residents in need of eye surgery, hearing aids and treatment they can not afford have been the recipient of these funds. At the state level our Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund provides seed money to Massachusetts Eye and Ear research in Boston. Our Lions Club International Fund awards grants all over the world, focusing on eye care, diabetes awareness and research and general health needs. Berkshire Medical Center was awarded a grant this year from the fund.
We need to continue our efforts and hope you can help. Any contribution no matter how small will be used 100% for these needs. Can you help us this year?
