The LSGB is a community project in Detroit to turn 4 blocks of vacant lots into perennial crop lots to establish food security for the community & provide emergency solar power during storm power outages.
The Lindsay Street GardenBelt seeks to transform unutilized vacant city lots into lush perennial food forests, providing a diverse range of organic produce for the community. Contained on each lot will be a tool shed, a rainwater catchment system, and a gazebo with solar panels to provide emergency power for electronic devices during severe weather power outages. The project's highlight feature is a 100 ft. tractable greenhouse on a 1-acre lot to provide 4-season crop production. The integration of these elements will create sustainable and vibrant spaces that improve community health, reduce our carbon footprint and increase biodiversity.
I seek support in implementing this ambitious initiative that will not only address food insecurity and environmental sustainability but also foster community engagement and empowerment while improving the overall health of the residents.
