Michael and Alex Paternity Expense Fund

I first met Alex when he was around 11 years old. I knew him from seeing him always kite surfing on the beach. As time passed, my friends and I noticed he was coming to the beach earlier in the day 6am, and not leaving until 10pm at night. What originally started out as an offer for clothes (he always wore the same clothes daily), turned into me finding out he had been abandoned, and living alone since the time he was 10. It was that day he asked me if I had a spare room available. I did not even hesitate.My son is a thoughtful, and caring child, that goes out of his way to help others.I immediately obtained temporary custody of Alex at the age of 13 when I realized he did not have anyone taking care of him. He has been with me every since, and recently turned 16! He is an avid kite surfer/semi professional, and is sponsored by Spleene Kiteboarding for competitions. When he is not kite surfing, he is playing video games, editing videos for games, and a huge movie buff! We both currently live in Colombia, although I am from the U.S., and he is from the Dominican Republic. It is in Colombia that he spends his days training for kite surfing competitions. I do contract work, but with Covid, money has been tight. We live very basic, and survive week to week on what I make, but the extra expenses to finally get legal paternity is a little more than I currently have, and any assistance with this will make a dream come true for both of us. 

I've never had to reach out for monetary help for myself, but at this time due to the past year with Covid, things have been difficult. Every little bit helps, and we would appreciate the donations, so Alex can finally have my last name, become a U.S. citizen, and allow life to be much easier with being his legal father, not just a custodian of him. A judge has already awarded me paternity, I now just have to sign the documents, and pay the fees. Thank you all for your time, and consideration. I will post updates as soon as I can!Update: Alex had Covid when he went back to the Dominican Republic to get his paternity papers for us. We thought he had recovered, but as of this past week, he is now on complete bed rest, with fluid on his lungs. He is currently on medication, and will be seeing a specialist tomorrow to do a scan of his lungs. Please keep him in your thoughts!
