Ciao, beautiful friends!
Michaela Alexander here--your favorite 19 year old, curly haired, redheaded cellist and art student from Bend, Oregon.
As many of you know, I am attending my second year at The Florence Academy of Art (FAA) in Italy. I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil and have always had passion and talent for art and music. Therefore, I was thrilled when I was accepted into Florence Academy of Art’s competitive program.
My Studies at Florence Academy of Art
FAA is one of the most prestigious classical art schools in the world and it’s a huge honor that I’ve been selected to study there and advance onto their more challenging second year program.
The second year program is focused on oil painting and it’s the portion of school I’ve been most excited about. In fact, earlier this year I visited my teacher’s art studio and saw his exquisite work.
One painting in particular captivated me--I lost myself in the colors, textures, and atmosphere of the work. I felt as if I had stepped into the painting itself. At that moment, I knew that I knew that I had to come back and learn to create such amazing art.
Will You Help Me Continue Pursuing This Dream?
Attending an international school comes with its own set of joys...and difficulties. Beyond school itself, I’m learning a new language, experiencing a new culture, and navigating a new city. Moreover, I’m unable to work a traditional job and most school scholarships do not apply to international schools so I have to creatively find ways to fund my school experience.
I'm Boldly Pursuing My Dreams (Even When It's a Little Crazy)
I made a bold (and kind of crazy) decision in even coming to school last year. I didn’t have all the money needed for the year's tuition--let alone living and travel expenses, but I was determined to figure out a way to make it work. I was lucky enough to connect with an Italian family, where I taught their two daughters English in exchange for room and board.
However, this meant that I was either working or in school seven days a week. This next year, my school workload is even more intense and I will be unable to continue working with this family.
In addition to my classical art studies, I am continuing in my study of the cello. Last year, I was privileged with a number of opportunities to perform. I played cello for the restoration of a sculpture inside Basillica di Santo Spirito and for a contessa, at her estate.
Your Generosity Makes My Dream Possible
I am so excited to head back to Italy and continue studying art, playing music, and devoting myself to my education. But I can’t get there without your help.
Your generosity and support will enable me to continue pursuing this dream.
I am raising a total of $30,000 to cover this year’s tuition, books, art materials, cello rental, groceries, travel, and all other living expenses. Even a small donation of $5 will make a huge difference in my world.
Also please share my campaign and help me continue my dream of becoming a brilliant classical artist.
As a Thank You to Those Who Donate

Micky
