Hello! I just wanted to give everyone an update! I also want to thank the people who have donated towards Marmalade's surgery.

Sadly, we had a short time frame to raise money and make a decision. We were able to raise $171 on here, and one direct donation of $75...we had to go with the amputation surgery...as there was no way for us to even come close to the $2,000-$2,500 needed for the repair/reconstruction surgery.

I am including a picture. Marmalade had her amputation surgery, and she did well. The techs at the vet said Marmalade was one of the sweetest kitties they have worked with. Marmalade is home. She is not happy she has to wear a cone...but we don't want her messing with her stitches. We also have to keep an eye on her and NOT let her jump/climb on things for the next two weeks. She is getting around well, eating drinking well, and is always coming over for pettings and scritches. On 6/4, she goes back to the vet for a follow up and to get her stitches out.

Again, thank you for the help! Every little bit helped offset some of the surgery cost for my Dad. And some good news on my Dad...he gets to come home from the hospital tomorrow. He is excited to get to come home, excited to see his cats...and he plans on giving Marmalade lots of loving and cuddles.

More Info

My father is a retired veteran who LOVES his cats. He has been in the hospital, but might get to come home next week.

A couple days ago, one of his cats...Marmalade...injured itself. We are not 100% sure how she did so, but we suspect it was from my Dad's walker that got knocked over. After observing her for a couple days...she was still getting around, eating/drinking, using litter box, etc...just was not putting weight on her leg...so I took her to the vet this morning.

Turns out, it was worse than we thought. Marmalade had completely broken her femur on her back right leg. (I have added a pic of the xray). The ONLY option is surgery. We have two options for surgery. Option 1, Marmalade will have her back leg amputated, and will cost $700-$1,000. Option 2, is surgery to repair her leg, which will require it to be plated (they cannot use pins because of where the break is), and will cost $2,000-$2,500.

My Dad is retired and on a fixed income, so he does not have the money to pay for the surgery. I tried signing him up for CareCredit, but they turned him down for lack of a credit history. I also tried signing up for CareCredit, but was turned down (student loans). Our only option is to fundraise.

We have until 4p/5p today to try to fundraise what we can. We (my Dad and Veterinarian) would like to try to raise the $2,500 so we can fix Marmalade's leg. She is only about 2 years old, healthy, so everyone agrees fixing it would be the best option. But if we cannot raise enough, we will have to choose the amputation surgery.

Please help in any way you can. If you can donate, we greatly appreciate it. If you cannot donate, you could help by sharing our link/page. marmalade really needs your help!
