Paul Kent's 2024 Boston Marathon Fundraiser

From Paul Kent

I am running the Boston Marathon for those who can't, so one day they can. To that end, this year I am taking part in the 128th Boston Marathon to raise money for Journey Forward via The Thomas E. Smith Foundation.

This year I’m running alongside my good friend, Thomas Smith, who is the co-founder/President of The Thomas E. Smith Foundation. Tom has sustained three separate paralyzing injuries and miraculously recovered to where he walks with Lofstrand crutches. He has completed the Boston Marathon 5X since his accidents and aims to make 2024 his sixth. My goal is to complete my third Boston since my surgery and continue to raise money and awareness for the disabled community. I ask that you please join me in my efforts. Thank you for your generosity and support; Tom and I Iook forward to crossing the finish line together on April 15, 2024!

The Thomas E. Smith Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to better the lives of those affected by and living with paralysis through financial and emotional support, as well as supporting preventive innovations that decrease the risk of spinal cord injuries.

Co-Founded by Thomas Smith and Tucker Mullin from Thomas’ hospital room in 2009, the TESF’s mission includes dynamic platforms that target specific issues in the Spinal Cord Injury Community. Each facet of our preventative, motivational, and reactive mission is meant to provide substantial support to individuals and families, and the TESF is fully committed to creating influential solutions that make a difference for those in need.

The TESF believes in a progressive approach to dealing with spinal cord injuries. An important element of the foundation is to provide those affected by and living with paralysis financial resources to support daily necessities not covered by insurance. These resources include but are not limited to: physical therapy, adaptive rehabilitation equipment, transportation, home modifications, and private nursing care.

The TESF also fully supports innovative and preventative programs that decrease the risk of catastrophic head, neck, and spinal cord injuries in ice hockey. The Look-Up Line™, ice hockey’s first warning track, was created by the TESF to serve as an adjunct to decreasing the risk of head and catastrophic spinal cord injuries. The Look-Up Line™ does NOT affect the speed, intensity, or heritage of the game of hockey, and does not require new playing rules directed at the player.

With your help, the TESF will continue to be a leader in helping individuals that suffer from paralysis while also aiding the medical community in finding a cure!
