Putting Cabo areas back on Google Maps

Putting Cabo areas back on Google Maps

From Bill Bailey

Time to upgrade my 360 camera in efforts to provide missing and outdated Google mapping data. Accurate and current mapping data helps visitors and first responders find directions and see properties previously unmapped.

Update #6

In early April 2021, in addition to updating Google Street View when Santa Terra opened in Todos Santos, we also made sure we physically added the Oysteria Oyster Bar. As a result of us updating the Google mapping data there have been over 100,000 views on the Oysteria alone (that's people clicking on the Google map icon), and this is up 50,000 clicks from August. In total, we are now over 6 million views.
This is a free community service we offer that is being funded largely out of pocket and also from campaign donations.

Update #5

So yesterday I spoke with the Captain of the Volunteer Firefighters in El Pescadero called the Bomberos - first responders. I asked him how do they find places and he said they rely on their knowledge of the area first followed by getting directions from Google Maps.
Fires are easier to find - just look for the smoke. I asked him what if my wife or I had a medical emergency and needed assist. I pulled up the coordinates of our Casa and showed him the resulting directions provided by Google Maps. Turns out that path would take them "through" a B&B property, down a closed road with three fences which is totally impassable.
Our home is a new build and the road going to it is new and not yet mapped. You can't even see our home from the public road. Many new homes are going up in the area and the same would apply to many. So updating Google Maps, since I am able, is a no brainer for me and could actually help to save a life one day.
Side note - Google is very slow to accept road changes. We have added and closed over 100 roads in the last 18 months and only 3 have been accepted thus far. Google Street Views however shows up in less than a week. I encouraged the Captain to lean on GSV for finding places - he agreed.

I really enjoy doing this but I'm limited with what I can do the Theta Z. The Pilot Era will surely double or triple my productivity.

Update #2

Looks like the campaign is getting off to slow start so I decided to take off all the added accessories and to downgrade to a lesser expensive camera. It'll still do the job just fine.
