Event Information

The Remember the Titans fundraiser is the brainchild of the long time RHHS baseball coach Garry Poe who wanted to arrange for an informal reunion of Rolling Hills HS alum while also raising money for a charity helping kids. Dan McDonald, a RHHS Grad, and Long Beach Bar Foundation Emeritus Board Member, which oversees the Shortstop project, suggested the Shortstop project be the recipient of the fundraisers charitable endeavors since it not only helped kids it also had a baseball connection.  The annual event has been in existence since 2003 and has raised over $100,000 for the Shortstop project.

This year’s event is a dinner on Thursday 4/21/22 at the Renaissance Hotel on Ocean Blvd in Long Beach. There will be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.  Garry Poe will introduce a Shortstop project graduate who will inform us f the benefits of the program and how it helped keep him on the right path.  Kevin Moen will tell us about being on Eli Mannings ESPN show Eli’s place wherein Kevin Regales about “The Play” in the 1982 “Big Game”.

Come break bread and reminisce with old friends and schoolmates about a bygone era and a school which no longer exists, except in the fond and vivid memories of those lucky enough to be called a RHHS Titan alum.  And of course, you will have an opportunity to interact with Coach Garry Poe who will lead us in the revelry, the comraderie and in Remembering the Titans.

All proceeds from The Rolling Hills High School Remember the Titan Annual Charitable dinner will benefit the SHORTSTOP Program, a juvenile crime diversion and education program geared towards stopping kids short of crime.

WHAT ARE KIDS SAYING ABOUT SHORTSTOP?

"Thank you. I really enjoyed this class.  It gave me an opportunity to learn what can happen if I continue to get a record as a juvenile. I do not want to continue to get in trouble with the law and I hope I do not. This program is eye opening for us so we can avoid getting in trouble and prevent (us) from even ending up in jail." -A Student

“Honestly, I like this program a lot. I feel like it has helped me and taught me a couple of things so far that will help me in the future. I like how every staff member is so nice and caring for our future presence. They show us how to not get into trouble and to stay away from it if we see it coming. They explain everything to you if you don’t understand. The best part is when you get to hear everybody’s story on how they got there and what they are going to do to make it up for themselves and their parents. This program is the best!! I do not dislike one thing about this program. I recommend it to anybody else just so they can learn and to stay away from trouble.” -Alberto

“Thank you to all the SHORTSTOP staff and guest speakers for helping me understand everything about law and how the system works. I understand why you want the best for us teenagers and I appreciate you so much. I remember when (the holding cell volunteer) took the time to sit there and took the time to share her life story with me and the other students. I liked her story and it was very interesting to hear what happened in her past as a teenager. I thank the public defender that was in the Zoom (meeting); she was helping us understand the situations for our actions. She helped me so much, even before the Zoom classes. She helped me get to my class and she answered all the questions I needed. I truly thank all of you and I appreciate what you’re doing for us teens. Thank You.” -A Student
