Retreat Center

Retreat Center

From Rene Bishop

I'm raising money to purchase property and materials, and to pay any bills associated with creating a retreat center. This center will be in a rural country setting, yet close to a small tourist community.

One of the big questions I get from people is, "Why a retreat center?" The dream is to provide a beautiful atmosphere where people can disconnect from the stressors of life and relax. Even when I traveled with youth groups to retreats and conventions, almost every second was planned so that there seemed to be no time to breathe. The young people desired less activity and more discussion, more rest, and more personal fellowship. It has been my calling for about 5 years to make that request a reality.

Having been part of a rushed society for many years, I understand the necessity for quiet reflection. During my life, I have worked hard jobs as well as taken care of family members. I also needed time to recover from 2 head-on collisions. I have found that in the quiet stillness and the enjoyment of surrounding beauty, the body and mind can heal and rejuvenate so that life does not become overwhelming.

This proposed retreat center is a culmination of the desire for peaceful contemplation and a plan to give back to the community in which I grew up. The location is less than 10 minutes from the picturesque town of Walhalla, SC, which is becoming known for its festivals and local Farmer's Market. It's also15-20 minutes from many hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls, as well as historical sites, and 30 minutes from Clemson University.

Money from this campaign will be used to help purchase property, materials for cabins, furnishings, and to pay any costs to make this dream a reality. Funds will also be used for any beautification processes, safety measures, and a small walking trail around the property.
