Ride the Change

From Erica Ware

I'm raising money for Louisville's LGBT mental & emotional health by bikepacking the Ohio to Erie Trail (326 miles). All donations will go to Louisville's LGBT Center to help create safe and healing spaces.

Update #5

Hi!

Thank you so much for your donations and support! With your help, I raised $742 for LGBTQ mental & emotional health in Louisville, KY. I will donate the money to Louisville Pride Foundation for the LGBT center.

A big update about my biking trip:
The first day was gorgeous, and we managed to stay an hour ahead of the storms. We biked for 52 miles and made it to Xenia, OH, where we found our camping area.

The storms found us that night, and they quickly escalated to severe storms with lightning and strong winds. It was a bit scary in our tiny tents. After learning the storms were staying for three more days, we decided to postpone the trip.

We were only working with 5.5 days to finish the trip, and the storms were not allowing that to happen. We are looking to finish the trip in early August!

Thank you all for your support!

More Info

Ride the Change is a bikepacking fundraiser created by me (Erica) to help encourage mental and emotional healing in the Louisville (KY) LGBT community. I am a queer black woman, so I, unfortunately, know of the pain and trauma our society dishes out. I am also well aware of the patterns created to protect oneself from societal harm.

The Trevor Project estimated 712,000 LGBT who attempted suicide in the past year. UCLA says, "most suicide attempts (61%) among LGBTQ people occurred within five years of realizing one's sexual minority identity."

It's time to help each other understand that we all belong. It's time to create a society that makes it easier on the next person. It's time to awaken self-love and power. It's time for us to make a change.

I've been wondering, how can I help others who are experiencing what I've been through? Well... my friend and I will be bikepacking the Ohio to Erie Trail from May 25th to May 30th - that's 326 miles! We will begin in Cincinnati, ending in Cleveland, Ohio. It gets crazier or, if you're me, more fun - Whenever we stop for the day, we plan on sleeping in our tents at a campground - this means we will be biking with our clothes, tents, food, etc. There is one night we plan on sleeping in an Airbnb to wash our clothes!

Please support my friend and me by showing your love to the Louisville LGBTQ center - any amount of money you can donate is greatly appreciated, and we love you.  ALL donations will go to the center to continue creating safe and healing spaces for the LGBTQ community.

Let's not only save lives but let's encourage ongoing health. Life is a journey.

Thank You!

Update #3

I'm packing pretty light for my trip. I laid everything out to get a feel of the weight. It's not bad! I was worried it would be a "Monster" situation from the movie Wild. Honestly, I'm packing so light because of that movie.

Purchasing and preparing my food is the next step! That'll probably be the bulk of my weight
