Hi there.  I'm Steve Hayes, and I've known the Palmers since our days in Grand Rapids almost twenty years ago.  Bubba and I worked at Steelcase together for years and are now reunited at Watson.  We shivered through pee wee hockey with Alex and sheet rocked their damn basement.  We parted towns, but never hearts.

So now it's payback time...

Mike and Berta were up in Minnesota a few weeks ago and Berta took a bad spill on an ATV.  The injuries were serious, and Berta battled back famously, as you can track on the family's blog at http://RitaRockinStrong.com. 

Berta is now back in Dallas at Baylor, working hard at physical therapy. It's a new journey for the Palmer family, taking the positive perspective as living the "new normal". 

Many have asked what can we do? How can we help?

The reality of our friends' "new normal", as Mike puts it, is that it is a costly one.  For example, the very transport back to Dallas cost thousands, and is not covered.  And that is just the beginning...

There will be tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars needed for deductibles, co-pays, and the changes needed to maximize everybody's quality of life.  Equipment, transportation, and accommodations for the house are just the beginning.

So, we're going to do what needs to be done to make a difference here...raise bucks.  Bucks for Berta - lots of them.  Together as a secret operative mission. Tens or hundreds of thousands. Our goal is as ambitious as Berta's spirit - $100,000.

There's no lack of pride there, and Mikey would never let us do this.  In fact, he's going to be royally ticked off when he finds out. I can't wait. We'll just change the topic to BBQ though, and he'll go off on a Trager lecture and all will be well.

So step up to this mission impossible...drop a hundy if you can.  More is better, but every dollar will help. You know what you can do.  Every cent is going right to them.

The keeping your mouth shut part, oh yeah.  Delicate balance, using your email, phone, and Facebook to get this out without ANY of the immediate family finding out...but you're smart.  Please, just remain smart.  Ensure that anyone in the immediate Palmer family is off of any list or facebook friend list you use to push this out and around.  Think before you push send on anything, but don't let that keep you from pushing this on to all those you know who might want to help!

Failure to keep this off the Palmer's radar will involve a public shaming.  You think I'm joking.
