We, humanity, can be the most beneficial element on this planet.

-Geoff Lawton

Can you imagine a world where we grow all the food we eat in our own backyards? ...where we don't have to fill up our gas tanks with fuel and drive to the grocery store to fill up our carts and our landfills with garbage? ...where no food is wasted and no one goes hungry?

I do believe these things are possible and my friends at Soil Born Farms are showing us the way.

Soil Born Farms is non-profit Urban Agriculture and Education Project situated on the American River Ranch. This 55-acre historic ranch (located within the American River Parkway) provides a wonderfully diverse landscape to engage both youth and adults in hands-on activities that educate and connect them with the natural world, healthy food, healthy eating, job and life skills, hard work, and service opportunities.

In partnership with businesses throughout Sacramento, and with the help of volunteers, Soil Born Farms plants gardens in schools and communities, harvests surplus fruits and vegetables from backyards throughout Sacramento, donates the surplus to food lockers, shares the farm with the community and inspires us to take care of ourselves, our communities, and our planet.

Soil Born Farms is a sanctuary where we learn to be good stewards of our planet. It's a Gardening Revolution with a mission to empower youth and adults to discover and participate in a local food system that encourages healthy living, nurtures the environment and grows a sustainable community.

For me, Soil Born Farms has become a haven. It's where I go to get back to the earth...to pull weeds and learn about composting, to plant tomatoes and harvest onions, to spend time with friends and share the food we grow together.

I've been participating in their volunteer program for about a year. I can't express how grateful I am for Soil Born Farms. Being involved in this farm project that offers so much to the people of our community has enriched my life in ways words can't convey. That's why I've decided to run the C.I.M. on Sunday, December 8th, in honor of Soil Born Farms! It's my hope to raise as much money as I can to help grant scholarships to children in the Roots & Wings program, or purchase much-needed tools for the various community initiatives such as Harvest Sacramento and Growing Together. Soil Born Farms wouldn't be able to provide this magic to our community, if not for donations from people like us.

Will you please donate to my Roots & Wings Run for Soil Born Farms?

Thank you for your time and for your support.
