The trip will provide a great blend of direct service, immersion, and grappling with issues of social justice. We will spend time in an orphanage, on work projects, and with children in the communities. We will be immersing ourselves into the lives and culture of the people there to live in solidarity alongside them. And we will spend considerable time grappling with systemic issues such as politics, economics, history, culture, religion and how each of these impacts the lives of the people. We will spend some time visiting very powerful sites from the civil war of 1979-1992, including sites of martyrdom & massacre, memorials, meeting with family members of martyrs and survivors of massacres, and discussing issues with leaders of the FMLN & ARENA political parties.We will be serving the people directly over the course of our 11 days there. But even more importantly, we also hope that, through falling in love with the people there, learning their stories, and sharing in their lives, our experiences there will transform our lives into not just 11 days of service, but a lifetime of service to others.
